WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR THE CONFERENCE?

While there are no specific guidelines on what to wear for the conference, here are some helpful tips to keep in mind while packing. Anytime you are in the exhibit hall or meeting with recruiters, business professional is recommended. You can always change your blouse or shirt for the following day to avoid packing two suits. Since most likely you will be busy or engaged with the conference happenings, this attire is perfectly acceptable for the luncheon, education sessions, workshops, socials, or whatever event you may find yourself in attendance at.

During the closing banquet, however, you’ll find most ladies opt for formal wear. If you do not wish to wear a dress, business professional attire is always welcome. When it comes to dress shoes, we know those stilettos look fabulous, but expect to spend a good portion of the day on your feet.

It is highly recommended that you pack a comfortable pair of dress shoes as an alternative to high heels. For other conference events such as tours, business casual or better is always a safe bet.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CONSIDER PACKING?

While the following are optional, here are something helpful things to consider packing from an experienced conference go-er: Resume, padfolio, tote bag/briefcase, business cards, reusable water bottle, breathe mints, hand sanitizer, comfortable dress shoes, blister care, and a great attitude.

I'M LOOKING TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN MY CAREER - HOW CAN I MAKE THE MOST OF THIS TRIP?

Get your resume polished and printed ahead of time. Consider using a resume paper which can be found at Staples, FedEx Office, etc. Recruiters spend an average of 30 seconds per person reviewing your resume, so make sure it is clear, concise, and error-free. Like a good preflight preparation, the key to conference is showing up prepared. If you’re in the job market, practice introducing yourself within 3-5 minutes.

Be ready to talk about your professional experiences, why you want to work for a given company, and what values you contribute to the workplace.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH CHAPTER MEMBERS WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE?

While we encourage everyone to mix and mingle with their industry peers, if you’re in need of some familiar faces, our conference WhatsApp chat is a great way to keep in touch with other chapter members. Check your emails for the link to join or fill out the form above. We look forward to seeing you in Long Beach!

THIS IS MY FIRST CONFERENCE, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

First and foremost, expect to have a great time. It may be easy to feel overwhelmed, but if you have an open mind and a plan, you will quickly find why the conference motto is to “connect, engage, and inspire.”

THE CONFERENCE HAS A LOT TO OFFER, HOW DO I DETERMINE WHICH EVENTS ARE FOR ME?

We recommend planning for the conference in advance. Take a look at the Women in Aviation International website and magazine and have a plan in place since there is a lot happening at any given time. Unless the conference offers a special ticketed event, feel free to explore and attend what workshops, education sessions, or socials you can find! There are plenty of resources available to help you plan your day. This way you can make the most of your conference experience.

REALLY WANT TO GO, BUT MY BUDGET PREVENTS ME FROM ATTENDING. ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Yes! Each year the North Texas Chapter offers several conference scholarships that cover the registration fee, hotel, and a travel voucher for meals and airfare. The scholarship window is only open for a brief period from December to January so make sure to follow us on social media for up-to-date information on chapter events and scholarship offerings. You must be a member of both Women in Aviation International AND the North Texas Chapter to apply.

I CAN'T MAKE IT THIS YEAR, WHEN IS THE NEXT CONFERENCE?

Please join us for the 2024 Women in Aviation International Conference in Orlando, Florida from March 21st -23rd at the Orlando World Center Resort and Convention Center.
